There was a fantastic buzz of energy across the school this week as teachers took part in a specialised Maths Mastery Development Day.

While our teachers were busy honing their skills to bring even more excitement to our curriculum, it was our incredible Year2/3 pupils who truly stole the show!

Mastery in Action

The classrooms were transformed into hubs of mathematical discovery. The visitor and staff alike were blown away by how our Year 3 and 4 pupils approached the challenge of short division.

Rather than just focusing on the answer, students focused on the process. We saw some truly impressive skills on display:

• Concrete Champions: Students used physical resources (like Place Value counters and Base 10) to physically “build” their division problems, making the abstract numbers come to life.
• Mathematical Language: It wasn’t just “solving equations”—students were heard using sophisticated vocabulary like dividend, divisor, and remainder to explain their thinking.
• The Power of Talk: Our “Talk Partner” system was in full swing. Students practiced their active listening skills, carefully considering their partner’s methods before explaining their own.
