Welcome to Key Stage 2

Our aim in Key Stage 2 – covering Years 3 to 6, is to provide a nurturing, stimulating and inclusive  environment where every child feels valued, challenged, and inspired to achieve their best. We take great pride in the supportive relationships we build with our pupils and families, and we strongly believe that working in partnership with parents is key to a child’s success.

Our Approach

We provide a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum that fosters curiosity, creativity, and independence. Pupils are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their learning, work collaboratively, and develop critical thinking skills.

Curriculum

The KS2 curriculum follows the National Curriculum for England and includes:

  • English – reading, writing, grammar, and speaking and listening
  • Mathematics – number, problem solving, measurement, geometry and statistics
  • Science – including practical investigations
  • Foundation subjects – History, Geography, Art, Design & Technology, Computing, Music, and Physical Education
  • Languages – children are introduced to a modern foreign language: Spanish
  • Religious Education (RE) – following the Trust’s agreed curriculum
  • Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education – promoting wellbeing and life skills

Learning and Support

We recognise that every child is unique. Our dedicated teaching and support staff work hard to meet the individual needs of all pupils, offering tailored support and challenge where needed to help every child achieve their potential.

Assessment

Throughout KS2, teachers continually assess progress through classwork, observations, and more formal assessments. At the end of Year 6, pupils complete the national SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) in reading, mathematics, and grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS).

Enrichment Opportunities

Our KS2 pupils enjoy a range of enrichment activities including school trips, themed learning weeks, after-school clubs, sports competitions, and opportunities to take on leadership roles such as school councillors or playground buddies.

Transition to Secondary School

We support our Year 6 pupils with a smooth transition to secondary education through visits, meetings with local secondary schools, and focused transition activities in the summer term.
