Art in Action

Oct 15th

We love art at Solebay!

Our talented Year 1/2 pupils have been busy getting creative in their art lessons this term! As part of their exploration of textures and materials, the children had the exciting opportunity to work with clay to design and make their very own tiles. They rolled, shaped, and added texture using tools and objects, designing unique patterns and pictures. The children loved getting hands-on and exploring new materials.

Our Year 3/4 pupils have been busy exploring the world of colour, movement and creativity. They created stunning mono prints by using foil and paint to transfer beautiful patterns onto their final art pieces. Along the way, they experimented with primary and secondary colours, explored tints, shades and tones, and practised sketching movement through inspiring silhouettes of ballerinas. The children also discovered the work of amazing artists like Degas, Lautrec and Gearhart, whose ideas helped spark their imagination. The results were truly wonderful – a celebration of art, expression and creativity!

Elsewhere, children learned about the famous potter Maria Martinez. We got our hands into some clay and made our own pots using the pinch pot method – we poked our thumbs into a ball of clay and gently pinched it into a pot shape. After they dried, we decorated them! We used markers to draw patterns on our pots, just like the beautiful designs Maria Martinez used.
